Joolwe.com likes to keep members of our community up to date on jewelry designers, industry news and people who look at jewelry as an important part of their everyday lives. We would like to introduce you to Diane Danielson, founder of www.womensdish.com. Her website focuses on women’s issues such as career advice, finances, fashion and social media. She is also the CEO and founder of the Downtown Women’s Club, an exclusive members-only group that offers networking opportunities. “Since founding the Downtown Women’s Club in 1998, I’ve watched it grow into a trusted resource for professional women (and men) seeking career and business advice. Technology is changing the work environment and I want DWC+ premium members to have a competitive edge,” says Diane. Besides being an entrepreneur and a woman who empowers others, Diane is also an avid jewelry fan. So, you’ve heard a little about her website and the DWC; now, let’s get her take on jewelry and style.

What is your attitude towards jewelry?

Jewelry should complement and complete your outfit.

What are your jewelry style secrets/philosophies?

Only have one statement piece on at a time. Too much is just too much.

What type of jewelry can you not live without?

Hoop Earrings.

What piece of jewelry do you think every woman should own and why?

Diamond studs. They go with everything - sweats, suits or a ball gown.

What were some of your favorite pieces from our website, Joolwe.com?

Sterling Silver double hoops, Elle Collection. Love these because they can work with suits as well as casual.

Who is your style icon and why?

Kate Hepburn. She mixes the practical with the glamorous and is understated yet, with an impact.

What’s the biggest mistake you’ve seen that people make while wearing jewelry?

Too much and too matchy-matchy! Either the statement earrings, necklace, bracelet or rings … not all of them!

Jewelry Interview with Erika Pitera of MyShoppingConnection.com

August 10th, 2009

Erika Pitera, Editor-in-chief of MyShoppingConnection.com

Erika Pitera, Editor-in-chief of MyShoppingConnection.com

Fall is around the corner and it’s time to start revamping your wardrobe and your jewelry arsenal. The bright colors of summer will give way to the richer, moodier tones of fall. Jewelry designers are infusing colors such as magenta, cobalt blue and autumn orange with shimmering gemstones like olivine, topaz and emerald. The embellished accessories that dominated the fashion world last winter are still going to be key pieces this Fall. Every magazine or website has an opinion on what is going to be “in” and what is going to be “out”. Joolwe.com online jewelry store is passionate about jewelry and we love hearing from our customers and members of the blogosphere about their thoughts and feelings on the subject. Erika Pitera is the editor-in-chief at MyShoppingConnection.com, a fabulous website dedicated to “great finds for fine living.”

As a journalist, Erica says she enjoys “interviewing interesting designers and artisans as well as featuring handmade products and unusual items I run across while shopping on the Web. I love sharing other people’s fantastic work with the world.” If you are looking for excellent up-to-date information about various online stores that feature those hot items that you love to purchase but are hard to find…..MyShoppingConnection.com is your new favorite site. As the editor-in-chief of a site that is dedicated to shopping, Erika has browsed through a lot of online stores that sell everything from baby products to books to clothing and jewelry. She took some time out of her hectic schedule to give us some insight on her thoughts about jewelry and style.

What is your attitude toward jewelry?

I’ve been around jewelry my entire life. My grandparents owned a fashion jewelry business, and I can remember even as a small child being fascinated by my grandmother’s shiny accessories. I’ve had earrings since before I could walk, and I never leave the house without wearing at least my wedding ring and earrings. I love everything from fun and funky sterling silver pieces to gorgeous sculptural works with semi-precious stones. Some people love shoes, others are handbag addicts - I will always be a jewelry girl.

What are your jewelry style secrets/philosophies?

Even though I love jewelry, I do believe there is such a thing as too much. Rather than look like Mr. T, I prefer to wear a few unique or beautiful pieces to accent my outfit. I have a few pieces of jewelry I always wear - my wedding ring, of course, and a pair of diamond studs - and everything else is determined by my mood on a given day.

What type of jewelry can you not live without?

Earrings. I am wearing 4-1/2 pairs (yes, I have 9 ear piercings).

What piece of jewelry do you think every woman should own and why?

Every woman deserves to own a simple pair of diamond studs. Whether they’re set in white gold, platinum, yellow gold, etc… It doesn’t matter. Diamond studs are enough to make a woman feel luxurious, and they can be worn with any outfit or any other piece of jewelry.

What were some of your favorite pieces from Joolwe.com and why?

JPE-000173 - Sterling Silver and Pearl Drop Earrings

I love pearls, and these earrings are great because they can be dressed up or down.

J8B-A000003 - Athena Sterling Silver and 5 Gemstone Charm Bracelet

Charms are gaining a lot of popularity now, and I like the simplicity and elegance of this bracelet complemented by the different gemstones.

Who is your style icon and why?

I’d have to say Coco Chanel. I can really identify with her quote “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.” She had a very classic, elegant style that many people continue to emulate and admire. “Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance” - what could be more true? I always select outfits and jewelry with simple, clean lines because I know they’ll never go out. I’ve never been one to latch onto trends.
